Boris Becker was the special guest at the Italian programme ‘Che Tempo Che Fa’ on Rai 1. Hosted by TV presenter Fabio Fazio, Becker spoke about the relationship between win and loss: ‘Winning is always beautiful, but you mostly remember the losses. If I’d lose a final now, I would remember it for a longer time. The tennis player’s life is beautiful when you win, but not so much when you lose.’
What is the importance of talent in tennis? ‘You need to see what talent means. It’s clear that you need to have coordination, you have to know how to play under pressure, but if you don’t work hard, regardless of talent, you do not make it.’
On the racial abuse towards his 23-year-old son Noah, Becker said: ‘It bothered me a lot. You should stop something when it starts. This kind of person needs to be punished and removed.’
Becker finally said that Novak Djokovic is a fantastic guy, as he worked with him for three years, and described Roger Federer as unique. ‘It’s difficult that there will be another player like him.’
