While some relationships begin with a slow simmer, Heidi Klum and Tom Kaulitz’s relationship started with an instant spark. Since meeting in 2018, the pair have walked countless red carpets together and shared plenty of PDA. Clearly, the love between Klum and Kaulitz runs deep.
“He is the kindest, sweetest, most caring, loving person,” Klum told People about Kaulitz in September 2018. “I feel so lucky. I don’t know the last time I was this happy in my life.” The couple exchanged wedding vows in 2019—twice—first, in a secret ceremony in California and then with close friends and family in Capri, per People. The secret to their happy marriage is “having fun together,” Klum told The New York Post in September 2024. And fun they have.

He’s a fellow German.
“I finally found a German husband,” Klum revealed on an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. She acknowledged that her and Kaulitz’s strong connection may stem from their shared heritage. “He is absolutely wonderful. Maybe it is because he is German and we understand each other in a different way,” Klum told People. Apparently, that includes a knack for knowing what to gift the America’s Got Talent judge.
Kaulitz, who was born in East Berlin, gave his wife a piece of the Berlin Wall in September 2019. “It had to come all the way from Germany and then with a crane into our garden,” Klum told Kimmel. “It’s beautiful that it’s broken and that it’s not standing there anymore doing what they intended it to do, so I love it as an art piece in the garden.”
He and Klum met through a mutual friend.
The pair initially met at a mutual friend’s birthday party in February 2018—and Klum was smitten. “You know when you’re immediately attracted to someone that you’re like, ‘Oh, my gosh, I can’t look at him!’ So, I had to sit next to him, instead of across, because then I would’ve had to look at him the whole time,” Klum recounted during an episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Apparently, Kaulitz was just as taken by Klum. In December 2018, he proposed to the former Victoria’s Secret Angel with the help of her kids. She captured the joyous moment on X (formerly Twitter), posting a photo of her and her future husband that showcased her custom-made engagement ring with the caption, “I SAID YES ❤️.”
Kaulitz and Klum tied the knot in 2019—twice.

Two months following their engagement, the couple made their love official after obtaining a marriage certificate in California. Celebrations would follow that August in Capri, Italy, aboard a luxury yacht, reported People.
For their nuptials, Kaulitz wore a white suit with a blue shirt while his bride opted for a Valentino couture gown complete with a veil. She accessorized with a diamond necklace that spelled out “TOM.”
He’s in a band with his twin brother.

Tom Kaulitz is the guitarist for Tokio Hotel, a German band he formed with his twin brother and lead singer, Bill Kaulitz—as well as drummer Gustav Schäfer and bassist Georg Listing—in 2001. For the 15th anniversary of their single “Monsoon,” the band released a new music video in which Bill wore one of his sister-in-law’s dresses, a dark blue tulle number. After wrapping up their European tour, the Kaulitz brothers decided to give the public a look into their personal lives via the Netflix reality series Kaulitz & Kaulitz.
He’s a millennial.
Born September 1, 1989, Kaulitz is a millennial 16 years younger than his Gen X wife. “I think more and more it’s accepted to be an older woman with a younger man,” Klum told People in 2025.
Thanks in part to his influence, she’s been hitting the nightclubs more, Klum told People. But perhaps one of her preferred pastimes is spent at home with her other half—behind closed doors. “Sport en chambre is my favourite exercise,” Klum told the Times. The French phrase roughly translates to “sex” or, more aptly put, “bedroom sport” in English.
He loves Heidi-ween.
If anyone loves Halloween, it’s Heidi Klum. And if anyone loves Heidi Klum, it’s Tom Kaulitz. The two have taken Halloween couples costumes to a whole other level, dressing up as everything from Shrek and Fiona, to a frightening fisherman and his worm bait, to E.T. and his S.O.—to name a few. “He loved it. He’s just as nuts as me,” Klum told People of Kaulitz’s Heidi-ween experience.
He’s a “family man.”
Klum shares four children—Leni, Lou, Henry, and Johan—with her ex-husband Seal. But Kaulitz has taken on the role of “an extra dad,” a source told People. “He plays sports with Heidi’s boys and is involved in activities that the girls enjoy. Heidi loves his energy and take on life and feels very grateful that she met Tom,” they added.
Kaulitz also included Klum’s kids in his breakfast-in-bed proposal plan—after getting their blessing. “He asked my kids first if he could ask for my hand,” the Project Runway host and judge revealed in an interview with People. “They figured out how they were going to do it and then they all surprised me on Christmas morning…I thought that was so nice that he involved my kids.”
Between his wife, her children, and his brother, Kaulitz makes time for those he cares about. “I’m a family man,” he told People. “I love family and I enjoy spending quality time. We really just enjoy ourselves.”
