Eurythmics star Dave Stewart: Helene Fischer is ‘incredible’
Dave Stewart (72), guitarist of the legendary Eurythmics, has only words of praise for his German colleague Helene Fischer (40). In an interview “with the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”, the British musician, who made pop history together with Annie Lennox (70), shows his enthusiasm: his encounter with the German pop queen during her TV show left a lasting impression.
‘She works incredibly hard’
Stewart appeared in the “Helene Fischer Show” in 2023 and performed a Eurythmics medley together with the show host. ‘She works incredibly hard. With Helene, everything goes bang, bang, bang,’ he recalls about the performance. ‘The way she rehearses positions, how she works with the dancers – I just thought: Wow, this person is on fire.’
Initially, the musician had no idea what to expect from the show. ‘I had no idea what it was,’ he admits. He ended up on the show only through a recommendation from his colleagues: ‘But I’m friends with Simple Minds, and they were there too. So I said to myself: Then we’ll come too.’

Plenty of surprises in German TV shows
For Dave Stewart, it’s nothing new that German TV shows can sometimes lead to unusual moments. He had already collected curious experiences there in the 1980s. ‘At the height of Eurythmics in the 80s, Annie Lennox and I did some TV shows in Germany. And we really never had any idea what would happen there,’ the singer recalls. Among other things, his colleague Lennox had been placed on stage practically as a pearl in an XXL oyster.
Dave Stewart is one of pop music’s most influential figures. With Eurythmics, he created worldwide hits in the 1980s together with Annie Lennox, such as “Sweet Dreams” and “Here Comes The Rain Again”. After the band’s dissolution in 1990, he worked as a producer for greats like Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan, and Céline Dion.
