Boris Becker has claimed he is now ‘stronger’ following his stint in prison after posting a New Year message to his fans. Becker served eight months in prison before being released early in December after being sentenced to two and-a-half years behind bars in April.

The former Wimbledon champion was found guilty of hiding £2.5m of assets and loans to avoid paying his debts. Amid his release over the festive period, Becker has taken to social media to give his fan an update.

Boris Becker says prison made him ‘stronger’ in New Year message ...

And after going through what he described as ‘the most difficult year of his life’ the six-time Grand Slam champion is looking forward to 2023.

Speaking on Instagram he said: “I call this the most difficult year of my life. But it’s done, it’s dusted. I came out alive – I think I came out stronger. I think my mental health is better than ever.”

In the clip the German was seemingly enjoying his release after being pictured by the beach.

Thanking his friends, family and fans, Becker went on: “Now lets call it quits, 2022 is over, thank you very much and see you next year,” before ending his video by blowing a kiss. Under the terms of his release Becker can not return to the UK for several years and has since hinted he could make a luxury move to either Miami or Dubai.

Following his release Becker gave an in-depth interview with German broadcaster Sat 1 , giving a damning account of his time behind bars. He said: “In prison you are a nobody. You are only a number. Mine was A2923EV.

“I wasn’t called Boris, I was a number. And nobody gives a s*** who you are.” Revealing there have been some positives to come out of his imprisonment he went on: ““I believe I rediscovered the human in me, the person I once was.

“I’ve learnt a hard lesson. A very expensive one. A very painful one. But the whole thing has taught me something very important and worthwhile. And some things happen for a good reason.”
